Our lab is richer by one postdoc and also by one experimental system: we are now hosting the Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow Himanshu Sharma. Himanshu transferred from another lab on campus and brought his favourite infectious agents with him: microsporidia! These heavily minimalised eukaryotic parasites have a fascinating life cycle in which spore forms inject their entire contents – including genome, ribosomes, etc – into the cytoplasm of an infected cell. Himanshu uses cryo-ET and other methods to study the macromolecular injection apparatus that microsporidia use to establish their intracellular phase. Welcome to the lab, Himanshu!
